Quase nada se registrou nos Anais da Casa sobre a criação da Comissão de Petições, somente que foi criada em 22 de junho de 1826 no bojo das discussões do Regimento Interno, já sobre sua extinção registrou-se que ocorreu em 5 de maio de 1830 quando os senadores decidiram que sua nomeação não tinha mais lugar por considerarem ser essa comissão de carácter especial (RI, art. 106).
